The College Library at Government Degree College for Women, Kathua serves as a cornerstone of academic excellence and a vibrant hub for knowledge seekers. Equipped with all the requisite facilities, the library offers a well-furnished seating arrangement for students and staff, along with Photostat and high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity, fostering a conducive environment for learning and research. The library boasts an impressive collection of 10,542 books (Ten thousand five hundred and forty-two) across various disciplines, catering to the diverse academic needs of students and faculty members. In a significant step towards modernization and digital transformation, the College Library is now fully automated. The automation process, initiated in 2020, was carried out using the Integrated Library Management System (ILMS) – e-Granthalaya, developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Government of India. With this system in place, all library functions—including cataloguing, circulation, acquisition, and member services—are seamlessly managed through a digital interface, ensuring efficiency and ease of access. This transition to a fully automated system marks a new era for the library, empowering users with quicker access to information and better management of resources. As Carl Sagan once said, "The library is the delivery room for the birth of ideas, a place where history comes to life." The College Library at GDCW Kathua truly embodies this essence, continually nurturing curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. In the words of Albert Einstein, "The only thing that you absolutely have to know , is the location of the library." At GDCW Kathua, that location is not just a space, but a gateway to knowledge, innovation, and lifelong learning.
