Govt Degree College for Women, Kathua was established in 2005, by an order of Govt of Jammu & Kashmir with Arts stream The science stream was introduced from the academic session 2010-11 The inflow of students to the college is increasing with every passing year In the session 2021-22, there were 975 students The number of students enrolled in the session 2022-23 are 1052 The college is recognized by the UGC under section 2(f), 12(B) and has been accredited B+ grade by NAAC in 2022 The campus of the college is spread over an environment friendly area of about 60 Kanals, which consists of Administrative, Academic and Library Blocks including well equipped modern laboratories The lush green lawns in front to the Academic blocks are creating a learner friendly ambience The college has infrastructure facilities like ICT enabled classrooms, multipurpose hall, open-air theatre, browsing centre, computer lab with internet facility, sports facility and well-equipped science laboratories The college has been declared as Tobacco and Drug free Zone A proposal for 30 bedded girls hostel facility has been approved The college is under CCTV survellaince 24x07 The Multipurpose Hall of the college is being used for organizing various academic, adminstrartive & cultural programmes The institution offers programmes across various disciplines in adherence to NEP 2020 At present, the college is offering English, Education, Sociology, Economics, Political Science, Hindi, Urdu, Dogri, Sanskrit , EVS, History, Public Adminstration, Food Science & Quality Control, Home Science, Botany, Zoology, Bio Technology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geography, Physics, Computer Applications in the field of academics, The college has excelled by bagging top position in the University results Ms Deepti, secured A+ grade with 92 CGPA in semester I in the session 2022-23 Two students of the college namely Ms Shivani Pathania and Ms Noopur Sharma got 7th and 10th position in BScPart-III Session 2012-13 Ms Nalinie Sharma & MsTania Gupta got 1st & 10th position in BA Part-IIIrd Session 2014-15 Ms Ananya Sharma got 5th position in BA Part-III 2015-16 session The college is committed to the task of achieving academic excellence by enhancing the skills of the students The mission is to provide value based education which has contemporary and global relevance and reach The college has objective of training young women to excel in professional and personal life for which it has run Skill Courses in collaboration with Central University, Jammu & NIELIT to impart skill-based education to the students in the previous session and various field visits, Industrial visits, educational tours are a regular feature of this college Apart from academics, the college is also excelling in the field of sports The college has an active MoU with Youth Services and Sports, Kathua The college has sports infrastructure for Badminton Kho Kho, Volley Ball, Table Tennis and Cricket Ms Mona Rajput & Ms Tania Gupta have bagged Gold & Silver Medal respectively in shooting competition at Disrict Level competition 2019-20 The players of the college have secured first position in Cricket, Tug of War and Kho Kho competition in Sports Festival organised by Higher Education Deptt2020 The NCC and NSS cells of the college have been recognized at the National Level by the performance of their cadets and volunteers The NCC & NSS students are actively participating in various NCC camps organized at different parts of the country The NSS Volunteers have been awarded by Vice Chancellor certificate by University of Jammu every year The students of this college have also been participating in “Display Your Talent” competition organized by the University of Jammu The various Clubs like Youth Club, Yuva Tourism Club, Drug De addicition and Psychological Councelling cell, Innovation club, Eco Club, Red Cross Club, Red Ribbon Club, Science Club, Road Safety Club etc are conducting various activities to enhance the overall personality of students The college aims to strengthen the quality of education by holding frequent interactive sessions, workshops & seminars at college level or in collaboration with other deptts which provide an opportunity to the students to make fullest use of their potential With continuous support and encouragement from the Higher Education Department, J&K Govt, parents & citizens of Kathua, the college is trying to emerge as a role model in providing quality education to women from all the sections of society
